We take Bio security very seriously here at Three Oaks and do our best to ensure that the contracting and spread of worms, parasites and disease is kept to an absolute minimum. To keep the risk to our animals low we adhere to the following procedures:
• We only use our own farm implements where ever possible
• The perimeter of our land is stock proofed with stock mesh, we also have a top and bottom wire of electric fencing as an additional deterrent and boundaries are checked on a daily basis.
• We have the DEFRA recommended 3 metre divides between each paddock to prevent nose to nose contact between groups of animals.
• Anyone entering the land and moving between paddocks is required to disinfect footwear in order to prevent cross contamination, we use DEFRA approved FAM 30 disinfectant to dilution 1:20 which is effective against notifiable diseases such as Bovine Tuberculosis and Foot & Mouth.
• We routinely take faeces samples for analysis to determine any worm burden and all animals are wormed every 6 months.
• New and visiting alpacas are quarantined, and are asked to be wormed 48 hours prior to coming to the farm.
